I got this cake cover yesterday and realised that the measurement of 12" includes the outer ledge. The plates I normally use for my baked goods are 11" in diameter, and it isn't big enough to cover the plate but not small enough to sit completely on top either (my bad, should have taken that into consideration).Considering many dinner plates nowadays are larger than 11" in diameter, this cake cover is not large enough for them.One more thing I noticed is that the handle to lift the cover is a bit small, as well as it narrows toward the top - which causes the cover to slip out of your fingers while lifting (both my son and husband experienced this - but not me).It is not a bad product, but because of the handle issue, I'm giving it a 3 star review.

some cake covers hit the sides of your cake as you try to slip it over, but not this one! it's really nice and big, roomy and attractive, what more could one want? love it!

I bought one of these over a year ago and it was good quality and useful so I decided to order a second one. This time I received a thinner plastic dome with an attached metal handle instead of the sturdy one piece construction of the original piece. It was attractive and not damaged so I kept it. 2 months later after hand washing it in the sink, I am drying it with a paper towel to prevent spotting as I always do, and it cracks right there in my hands. The light pressure of holding it with one hand and wiping it with the other was more than the cheap plastic could handle. I never expected it to survive the first time I dropped it...but I honestly thought it could stand up to a gentle washing.
