This product is essential if you want to decorate the sides of your cake without having your icing drip down the cake. The cake does really stay on the stand even though it's scary to tip your cake at an angle. This makes cake decorating much, much easier. I highly recommend this product with one reservation.... While I love Amazon, I don't love all of its many individual merchants. Check a local store to see if you can buy this at a lower price. AC Moore and Michaels both have these in our area, plus you can use coupons. The price listed from the one merchant who currently carries this is almost double the normal retail price that I have seen.

I got one of these but returned it b/c it was wobbly. It didn't seem very stable at all and I thought it should be better quality for the price. However, I did like the fact that it tilted--it _is_ a useful feature regardless of what Cook's Illustrated says--and that you could press a button and keep it from turning.
